Procession: A Water Greeting
300-person walking performance and festival in honor of our kinship with water.

October 21, 2023, at Los Angeles State Historic Park and surrounding areas.
9AM meet up at procession start points
10AM processions start walking toward the state park
11AM arrive at the state park for the Water Greeting

• What if we greet one another in recognition of water?
• What if we consciously connect with the water and land beneath our feet?
• What if we recognize that humans are just one small part of all living systems?

For Meztli Projects these questions have deeper meaning and impacts. For us this is an opportunity to shift focus to First Peoples (Tongva, Chumash, Tataviam, Acjachemen) and their efforts, specifically the Gabrielino/Tongva Band of Mission Indians, the Tongva Taraxat Paxaavxa Conservancy, and the Tongva Basketry Collective (Nohaaxre Miyii Pokuu’ “Weaving as One”), and who gets to be seen and recognized as experts about waterways and access to spaces like the LA River. Who gets to imagine and envision where we go from here AND how we get there?

“Procession” is a three-part walking performance initiated by artist @debrascaccostudio and co-organized with artist @rageone.

The walks converge at a FREE public festival at the LA State Historic Park, where @fandangobon will lead a day of music and dance - a perfect day for the whole family!
