Workshop attendees will learn and participate in creating various forms of letters inspired the history of graffiti in Los Angeles. This first session of 2 workshops is organized by Axel and facilitated by Vyal.
VYAL is one of the most identifiable graffiti artists on the West Coast. As his work has matured, his style has become more unique and easy to pick out. Most likely you’ve probably seen his distinctive work online. With 20+ years painting, VYAL’s compositions not only demonstrate a high level of spray can skill but the subject matter is extremely unique lying somewhere between psychedelia and floating deep dream state world. To achieve his stylistic compositions, Vyal primarily uses MTN products, from MTN 94 and Hardcore for larger scale projects, to MTN Water Based 300 for his studio work.
Miguelaxel is a 19 year old artist and musician apart of the Cultural Worker Apprentice Fellowship through Meztli Projects where he has been exposed to different forms of art such as printmaking, beading and aerosol graffiti where he is beginning to learn that art is a form of healing. Being from Los Angeles, Miguelaxel has further developed his creative practice using a more grounded approach that is reciprocal and in-relationship with the efforts of First Peoples as well as other local Indigenous communities.
This workshop is part of the Cultural Worker Apprentice program and partially supported by the California Arts Council, the Union Pacific Foundation and the Constellations Culture Change Fund.
