In observance of Indigenous Peoples Day, author Cindi Alvitre and illustrator Carly Lake will read and discuss their book Waa'aka' The Bird Who Fell in Love with the Sun, which depicts the Tongva creation story of Catalina Island, one of California’s oldest tales. This special reading of Waa’aka’: The Bird Who Fell in Love with the Sun by Cindi Alvitre (Tongva) and illustrator Carly Lake is part of Memory and Futurity in Yaangna, a series of programs by the LA County Library, LA County Department of Arts & Culture, the Native American Indian Commission and Meztli Projects, centering the artists and narratives of Yaangna's original peoples, the Tongva, Tataviam and Chumash.
