Through the Eyes of Tokoor is an exhibition featuring sisters Ciara, Cheyenne and Skyler Green, who are Tongva/Chumash young artists working through meztli projects’ Cultural Worker Apprentice program.
Ciara's paintings explore merging symbolic and abstract elements into her style of work portraying elements of the earth and the importance of The Nature as well as touches of femininity and her Native culture. Cheyenne's series of paintings capture the essence of girlhood, nostalgia, and femininity, encapsulating the ambiance and energy she associates with it, and infusing that energy onto canvases for others to share in the experience. Skyler's short film project showcases the essence of growing up in the San Fernando Valley from the perspective of teenage girls coming into adulthood. The series recontextualizes Americana through the overlooked San Fernando Valley girl. Inspired by her cultural heritage and identity as a Chicana, Skyler's photography explores what it means to belong within the Valley's diverse community. With each photo, she evokes the warmth of summer nights spent at local taco stands and the spirit of young women chasing their dreams against the backdrop of palm trees and rooftops.
