Basketry Exhibition and Workshop

  • Meztli Projects 2337 West Whittier Boulevard Montebello, CA, 90640 (map)

Olivia’s project, the Art of Basketry, aims to unpack my relationship to my Indigenous culture and self-identification through basketry, as a means to strengthen her knowledge of a critical part of Native traditions with basket weaving. This project will document research collected along the way and track the development of Olivia’s skills in basket weaving with her own designs that will reflect this ongoing project. This project will be documented in a journal detailing my journey with the information I come across through research, connecting to other Indigenous artists, Elders, personal reflections, etc

Olivia Espericueta is an Indigenous artist from the La Jolla Band of the Luiseño Tribe (a descendant) and an experienced beader, that is eager to learn more about Native culture alongside the Indigenous community through art, as well as a woman in STEM in her third year at the California State University of Los Angeles, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Biology and a minor in Anthropology.
